In the twelve years Barnetts' Senior Care has been providing care to seniors we have learned many things. One of the first and perhaps most important is the fact that everyone wants to remain in their own home and avoid a nursing home. The choice to maintain your independence and live in your own home might be the right choice for you. We can help you do that!
Too often in our society we hear, "It's not personal, it's only business". Well to us this business is personal. We believe we come to this business with a personal outlook and experience. We do care that you are satisfied with the quality of care you are receiving. Any complaint will be dealt with quickly and confidentially. You might find bigger companies; you might find more professionally organized companies; but you will never find a more hands- on management that with Barnetts' Senior Care. We are the boss, the office staff, the backup caregivers: the buck stops here!
Our dedication to providing superior service and to better understand the changing needs of our clients has moved us to continue to read, study, and learn about ourselves and our aging population. Sandra Barnett and Kathy Barnett have both recently completed the additional educational requirements and testing to become Certified Senior Advisors (CSA) the first in our field in West Virginia! This means we have met educational, background, and ethics requirements and are most capable of assessing and advising you. We are the only home care agency with this prestigious distinction.
Other agencies similar to ours offer a nurse assessment. We do not. We feel you and your family are well versed in your medical needs. It is the other basic needs you need help with. Our specialized training in the field of aging and changing needs better equips us to deal with all the aspects of your needs. We are knowledgeable about the physiological changes and common diseases of aging. We are cognizant of the challenging emotional and psychological changes that may come with aging. We understand the feelings of fear about loss of independence and the reluctance to seek help.

Left to Right: Sandra Barnett, Carol Barnett Paxton (1948-2006), Kathy Barnett
We grew up in Cross Lanes in Kanawha County and later in Putnam County, WV and have remained here throughout our lives. We love our state and the people and wouldn't have it any other way!
Barnetts' Senior Care was begun by us,Sandra Barnett and Kathy Barnett, in 1998 (originally as Home Helpers).
Prior to beginning this new startup venture, Sandra and Kathy were both married stay- at- home moms, with 6 kids between us. Sandra has an educational background in Social Work and worked many years for the WV Dept. of Health and Human Services. Kathy has education in Gerontology and has previously worked in real estate rental management and in business management.
Our mother was diagnosed with colon cancer in June of 1997. On the first of September the same year, our father was diagnosed with lung cancer. Both had many previous illnesses and had come to rely on their family for housekeeping, shopping, some meal preparation and transportation. Mom was legally blind due to diabetes complications so managing their many medications became our job also. With help from our sister, Carol Paxton, our brother and his wife, Greg and Lee Ann Barnett, we managed to provide them will all the care for those years of debilitating illness and the final months of their terminal illnesses.
Between the two of them, we gained experience and knowledge about Parkinson's disease, heart disease, lung cancer, blindness, diabetes, rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, skin cancer, prostate cancer, thyroid disorders, ambulation problems, and the emotional toll and cost for them that came with their increasing dependence on us. Losing their independence was a bitter pill to swallow for them but we were in the unique and lucky position to be able to help them. It was a labor of love we will never regret. There were times that rather than visit and enjoy their company, our time was occupied by the chores at hand. I wish there had been a company like ours at that time!
Dad (Kermit Barnett) died November 1st, 1997. Only five months later, Mom (Peggy Kilgore Barnett) followed him in death on April 10, 1998.
Within a few short months of their loss, we realized the skills and knowledge we had gained with them gave us insights into what other families might be experiencing and a way we could help others.
